Based in Port Townsend, Washington, Sunrise Coffee has been roasting fresh green coffee beans from around the world since 1985. For the last thirteen years, Sue Ohlson has been Sunrise's owner and roaster.
Sunrise is a specialty coffee roaster. We carefully select the geographic areas where our green coffee beans are grown and with the help of our importers and several international grading organizations we make sure that our beans meet the highest standards of quality, organic certification and sustainability possible. All of our sourced coffees impart flavors distinct to their countries of origin, the altitude where they are grown, and the farming practices employed by the local growers and their coffee cooperatives. A coffee-growing region within the same country can produce several coffee varieties, each with its own distinct taste and personality. Regardless of the region, every coffee we purchase has been researched, tested and cupped at source by our importers and their partners.
As a custom roaster, it is our challenge and goal to bring out the unique character of each coffee we roast. To that end, we roast to order almost every business day to ensure the freshest product possible, and we cup each individual lot as it comes in to guarantee quality.
